One symbol. Two currencies. Five thousand miles of water.
The Naira Yankee hat fuses the Nigerian ₦ with the interlocking NY, the two marks stacked and woven into one raised, white 3D-embroidered glyph on a Naija-green flat-brim snapback.
It's a hat with an argument inside it: the water didn't take our culture from us. It's how our culture has always traveled.
The story stitched into the front
- The ₦. Coined in 1973, the Naira is a word built from "Nigeria" itself. A country naming its own money on its own terms. Two bars, struck through the center of the glyph.
- The NY. Before it was a cap, it was a medal. Tiffany & Co. designed it in 1877 for the NYPD Medal of Valor. It became a New York icon, then a hip-hop uniform, then a dancehall status symbol from Kingston to Brooklyn.
- The Y is a map. On Nigeria's coat of arms, the Y is the Niger and Benue rivers meeting at Lokoja. Here, it's Lagos and New York converging into one mark.
- The name has traveled too. Anago. Nagos. Niger. Naija. ₦aira. Every name is still in the word.
Lagos to Brooklyn. West to west. Money has always crossed the sea, and so has the culture wearing it.
